Our Approach
Our work begins with the landscape around our studio in the Highlands.
Much of our inspiration and many of the materials we experiment with come directly from the land itself. Rainwater flowing from the mountains, glacial stone left by the last ice age, iron-rich sands gathered from local rivers, and quartz reclaimed from a nearby gold mine all find their way into different parts of our process.
Even the gold used in our lustre glaze is collected by hand from Highland rivers.
In the studio, each piece is shaped and finished by hand using traditional pottery techniques. The forms we make, the surfaces we create, and many of our glazes take their cues from the landscape around us, the colours of stone and soil, the textures of riverbeds, and the quiet tones of the Highland hills. Some pieces even carry elements gathered from that same landscape, allowing the finished work to hold not just the spirit of the place, but a small part of it as well.
It’s our way of working with the land rather than simply taking from it, allowing place, material, and craft to quietly shape the final result.
