Crafting with Nature: A Living Studio in the Highlands

Our Life

Our Family

Not so long ago, we packed up everything we owned, sold the lot, said goodbye to the city, and set off with our two kids in search of a different kind of life.
One grounded in nature. One that gives more than it takes.

We didn’t just walk away from our home and careers.

We let go of our safety net — pensions, savings, every ounce of security — and poured it all into a future we could believe in.

Not a future of things, but a way of living. A way of making. A way of being.

Nicola is a qualified ceramicist with a long-held dream: to build a pottery studio shaped not just by hand, but by place.

I left a career in electronics to join her, trading code and cables for shovels and mountains.
Together, we’re creating something new: a life and a livelihood that honour the land around us.

That dream is now solid beneath our boots.
The foundations are poured. The frame is rising. And with every nail and beam, a bigger idea is taking shape, built on principles of sustainability, simplicity, and deep respect for the place we now call home.

The land is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re not just building a pottery. We’re shaping a space that works in harmony with the Highlands. Every decision, from the ground up, reflects our long-term vision:

• Powered by Highland sunlight through rooftop solar
• Heated with an efficient air-source system that follows the seasons
• Protected year-round with high-grade insulation
• Prepared for the road ahead with on-site EV charging
• Entirely fuelled by carbon-neutral energy, because we believe in no compromise

Outside, we’re planting native trees, inviting wildlife, and creating a home that blends naturally into the glen.

Inside, we craft with raw materials drawn directly from the land:

• Gold, hand-panned from nearby burns
• Clay, sourced from wild seams in the hills
• Quartz, reclaimed from the old gold mine
• Water, gathered from rainfall and flowing streams, untreated and full of character

The project is still growing, piece by piece.
But already, every pot we shape carries something more than form. It holds a sense of place. A quiet thread of story. A life unfolding in clay.

We’re not just building a studio.

We’re building a future we believe in - and we’d love you to be part of it.
